Why it's hard

A regulated, unforgiving process

Every Bundesland is different

The exact process and required documents vary by German state — easy to get wrong without local expertise.

Certified translation is unforgiving

Every document must be certified-translated to the authority's exact standard — errors cause months of delay.

The FSP catches people off guard

The Fachsprachprüfung (medical language exam) trips up doctors who don't know it's coming or how to prepare.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between Berufserlaubnis and Approbation?
Berufserlaubnis is a faster, temporary licence to practise. Approbation is the full, permanent German medical licence. Many doctors start with a Berufserlaubnis while working toward full Approbation.
What does the price include?
€990.00 for Berufserlaubnis or €1390.00 for Approbation covers document preparation, certified-translation coordination, application submission and Ärztekammer liaison. Authority fees, translator invoices, the FSP exam fee and any language-course fees are separate.
What is the Facharzt add-on?
An optional €300.00 add-on that also recognises your specialist title (Facharzt) alongside your base licence.
Do I need to speak German?
Yes — a language certificate (usually B2) plus the Fachsprachprüfung (professional-language exam) is required for doctors. We guide you on exactly what's needed.
How long does it take?
Typically 3–9 months, depending on your Bundesland and how quickly your documents and translations come together.
Do I pay now?
No — you book now with no charge. We'll email you a secure payment link shortly after.
